Restoration: New and Improved #staircandy

The response to the whitewashing of the steps has been overwhelming to bring them back to their former #staircandy glory. So much so that stair-walking community represented by SoCal Stair Climbers, Civic organizations, including the Silver Lake Improvement Association, Los Angeles City District 13 Councilmember, Mitch O’Farrell, and local businesses, including the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic next door, have all come onboard to champion the repainting of the Micheltorena Steps to restore #staircandy. Those efforts culminated in the restoration of #staircandy on 25 May 2022, with Carla O’Brien flying in from Australia to lead a crew of 5 volunteers to restore the artwork with bolder, brighter paint colors. The volunteers included local residents Chris Westbrook and Ianthe Zevos, Field representative of LA City Councli District 13, Matthew Guerrero, LA City District 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, and Silver Lake Improvement Association President, Genelle Le Vin.
Additionally SoCal Stair Climbers walk leader Dan Gutierrez captured the restoration event on video:
